auDA (Australian Domain Authority), the governing body for domain names in Australia recently announced that .au domain names will become available next month. A domain name ending in .au signifies a connection to Australia, just like .com.au, .net.au and .org.au.
Business operators who already own an Australian domain name are eligible for preferential registration. This means if you hold a .com.au, .net.au or .org.au domain name, you are given preference for the matching .au domain name.
The Australian Cyber Security Centre have issued an alert that cyber criminals may register the .au domain to impersonate a business as part of a phishing campaign. They recommend that businesses register the .au equivalent to any Australian domain names they hold.
We also recommend ordering your .au domain name to ensure that competitors cannot register it and take advantage of your good reputation.
Businesses have until 20 September 2022 to register the .au equivalent of their domain name, before it is made available to the public.
